Electric vehicle dynamic charging
In 2022, CEFEM Power's R&D department developed 30kW couplers for the VEDECOM research and development institute as part of the European INCIT-EV project. This project is looking at wireless dynamic recharging technologies for electric vehicles in urban environments.
The CEFEM couplers are integrated into the roadway and one coupler is installed under an electric car. The couplers in the roadway are powered by alternating current and produce a magnetic field. The coupler under the car recovers the energy from this magnetic field, like a transformer.
CEFEM couplers are made up of windings and SCR capacitors from the CEFEM Group. Until now, these couplers have been tested in the laboratory. Today, they have been integrated into a roadway in the 17th arrondissement of Paris over a length of 30 metres, corresponding to 30 couplers.
With this demonstrator, they were able to prove that at a speed of 30km/h on a 30-metre road, it is possible to recover 2 kilometres of range. The idea is to reduce the size of the batteries and make them easier to recharge.
Congratulations to everyone who worked on this project.
